The Rundown: Batman tracks a dangerous creature that has seemingly done something to Bruce Wayne.

A ship is forced to crash on an alien planet and its pilot is on the run before being cornered by the immortal legend called Batman. Batman wants to know the location of Bruce Wayne. On outpost Delta, Mayor Dent, a scientist named Ada Vee and Sheriff Bruce Wayne are investigating another murder at the mines.

After Dent and Wayne return to the town, they are attacked by Batman who is convinced Wayne is a shadow demon posing as the missing trillionaire. As the two battle it out, the creature reveals itself. In the aftermath, the man who trained Bruce Wayne to become the Batman hears that his protégé is attacking people and prepares his potential replacement to bring Bruce down.

The Story: I really love this new take on the characters and how Higgins and Groom have mixed elements of classic Batman lore with a sci-fi twist. Having the story take place in a space/western frontier setting reminds me of Firefly and I love the take on some of the characters. There is some great action throughout this first issue and it ends on a fantastic cliffhanger that has me excited to see where this world takes me next.

The Art: D’Urso and Mora deliver stunning, stylish and beautifully detailed art throughout the issue. I was impressed with every page and panel.
